1. What is the need of agricultural study – why someone should study about agriculture?

Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy and if our economy has to grow, it cannot be without the help of agriculture. There is a lot of support from the government and private sector for agriculturalists by way of loans for farming, knowledge transfer, subsidised electricity, etc. Agricultural study from top colleges recognized by ICAR will help the students work under the central government as well as the state governments. There is a lot of scope for earning good money and there is no risk as such of losing jobs as agriculture is an ever green field and a growing field. There is a lot of demand for future agriculturalists.

2. What is the future of agriculture? What is the scope of students planning to study agriculture?

Today, climate-smart agriculture is the talk of the day. Due to rapid climate changes, the style of farming itself is under research and development. Nutritious food need to be supplied. That is the real challenge. Young entrepreneurs who have studied agriculture and have the courage to start something on their own can look for states/ countries which have huge land resources and start their ventures. If they are technically sound, nobody can stop them from being a good agriculturalist and a resourceful businessman.  The risk involved is comparatively less. Moreover global problems like poverty, unemployment, etc can be addressed by well qualified agriculturalists. They seem to have solution for the basic problems of this world.

3. How does a student’s 11th and 12^th school study along with coaching for ICAR help?

If you look at the syllabus for clearing the All India Entrance Exam for Agriculture (AIEEA), it comprises of 40% from 11^th grade, 60% from 12^th grade. So, study of NCERT 11^th and 12^th is very important. It is recommended that the students buy the NCERT text books and read them and clarify doubts, if any with the GURUJEE faculties. Study of school portions along with coaching with experts like GURUJEE ensures a seat in one of the ICAR recognized colleges/ universities in India thereby resulting in a bright future.

4. Does ICAR have good placements after UG ? What is in store for me after getting into ICAR recognized colleges?

Being an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, you can work at different posts in the forest department of the central or state governments. Agricultural engineers work on the mechanical side of agriculture. In banking, the professionals deal with agricultural finance. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) recruits agricultural professionals for key positions. Agricultural Scientists conduct research and experiments. Agricultural consultant gives expert advice for problems in agriculture. The Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) conducts all India competitive examination Agricultural Research Service (ARS), to recruit posts in the ARS of Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

5. What is the benefit of taking admission through ICAR ?

You can secure your future by taking admission through ICAR. Good and secured jobs with a good salary, optimum opportunities to do research and development, entrepreneurship opportunities, these and more are in store for you through ICAR. Thanks to ICAR, we are now self-sufficient in food production. Many varieties of crops are produced, innovations are being done through ICAR. Lot of agricultural scientists are doing research till this moment and you can be one among them in the future.

Other benefits are, you will get a degree from a Government university and not from any private university. All the teaching faculties at the universities are really good and transfer of knowledge can happen with less or no difficulty. If you are a keen experimentalist, you will get the practical labs and other facilities for conducting your experiments. Facilities provided are good, for study, research. When compared to IIT-JEE or NEET, the AIEEA is easy. With minimum preparation, you can clear the entrance exam. You are also eligible for scholarship. Toppers get a scholarship of 36000 per annum. Fee structure is very reasonable – It works out to 20,000 per year with hostel facilities. You can also concentrate on your extracurricular activities apart from regular studies. There is no pressure like in IIT’s and other medical colleges in India to perform well and keep high ranks throughout the study. Finally, you will realise that other than Engineering at IIT’s or MBBS at reputed medical colleges in India, there are also other options for those aspiring to make a mark in the society. ICAR comes with less pressure, yet rewards and recognition are high.
