Eligibility
General Eligibility
- Students appearing for or who have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognized board.
- Indian and international candidates are eligible as per the latest NTA guidelines.
- There is no age limit for appearing in JEE Main. However, participating institutes may have their own admission criteria.
Academic Requirements
- Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects.
- Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or a Technical Vocational subject should be taken as the third subject.
- Candidates must satisfy the latest eligibility criteria prescribed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the current examination year.
JEE Main Exam Pattern (2026)
Mode of Examination
JEE Main is conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT), allowing candidates to take the examination in a secure and standardized online environment across designated test centres.
Duration
The examination is conducted for a duration of 3 hours. Candidates eligible under the PwD category are provided additional time as per the latest NTA guidelines.
Papers Offered
JEE Main consists of three papers: Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech aspirants, Paper 2A for B.Arch admissions, and Paper 2B for B.Planning courses.
Subjects Covered
For Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), the examination covers three core subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, testing both conceptual understanding and problem-solving abilities.
Question Type
The examination includes Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) as well as Numerical Value Questions, designed to evaluate analytical thinking, conceptual clarity, and application skills.
Number of Questions
Paper 1 consists of 75 questions, with 25 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Total Marks
The maximum score for JEE Main Paper 1 is 300 marks, with each subject carrying equal weightage.
Marking Scheme
Candidates are awarded 4 marks for every correct answer, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect response in MCQ-type questions. Numerical Value Questions are evaluated according to the latest NTA marking guidelines.
Language Options
The examination is available in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, Odia, and Urdu, enabling students to write the exam in their preferred language.
JEE Main Syllabus
The JEE Main syllabus is based on the NCERT Class 11 and 12 curriculum and covers Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. It is designed to test students’ conceptual understanding, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Candidates should prepare according to the latest syllabus prescribed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
